The Pomona community has reported a surge in criminal incidents ranging from burglaries and thefts to organised armed burglaries. As concerns mount, residents are calling for urgent action to address the deteriorating security situation.

Several residents of Pomona have fallen victim to the criminals with reports of stolen manhole covers, electric gate motors, and even burglaries carried out brazenly by armed gangs targeting houses within the area.

The frequency of criminal cases has left residents feeling vulnerable and concerned for their safety.

Narrating her experience after getting the unwelcome visit from intruders, one resident said she just woke up to find her manhole cover gone.

“I couldn’t believe it when I woke up to find my septic tank cover gone. It’s not just the loss but the invasion of our privacy that leaves us shaken. “We need the authorities to take action and restore security in our neighbourhood,” said the resident.

Another resident said the lack of security measures in the area was gravely exposing them.

“It’s disheartening to see our once peaceful community plagued by crime.

“We need the police to step up their efforts and work with the community to bring back a sense of security,” said the resident.

Residents believe that the opening of Glenelg Road into Harare Drive has contributed to the increase in criminal activities in Pomona. They argue that this new access point has provided an opportunity for criminals to infiltrate the area more easily.

To prevent more losses, the residents have been urging each to shift to concrete manhole covers instead of the steel ones which are in high demand among scrap metal dealers.
