Residents of Rembrandt Lane in Strathaven are hugely relieved following the restoration of council tap water supplies to the area after several years of dry taps.

The residents have Ward 17 Ratepayers and Residents Association (W17RRA) chairperson Mr Obert Francis Munyaradzi to thank for the initiative to have water supplies restored. Mr Munyaradzi worked with Ward 17 Councillor Happymore Gotora to get the water supply line to the area rehabilitated much to the relief of residents staying at 13 properties in the area.

Rembrandt Lane residents had endured several years without council water because the smaller 25 mm pipes were not able to carry adequate supplies as pressure was subdued.

However, the rehabilitation project involved the replacement of these smaller pipes with larger 90 mm pipes, significantly improving water pressure and supply to the area.

Councillor Gotora said he will continue to continue to work tirelessly to ensure that the entire Ward 17 has access to water. He expressed his satisfaction with the restoration of water supplies to the 13 households, highlighting the significant impact it has had on the residents.

“It’s true that residents have started receiving water. They are happy as they have not had a drop of water for so many years. The problem was caused by the smaller pipes which were used. They were using 25 mm pipes and were replaced with 90 mm pipes so now water is coming with more pressure as they are now being supplied by bigger pipes. We are also working tirelessly so that the whole of Ward 17 has access to water,” said Cllr Gotora.

Mr Munyaradzi said team work was key to the successful completion of the project. He said communication was also instrumental in addressing the water supply issue and bringing about a positive change for the community.

“Please sincerely note that I was working hand in hand with Councillor Gotora. We communicate very closely. It was team work,” said Mr Munyaradzi.

Rembrandt Lane residents also expressed their gratitude to the City of Harare officials, who include a Mr Mutoro, who diagnosed the problem and made the recommendation to replace the small pipes, and a Mr Reza, the lead plumber who carried out the project.

The two officials were acknowledged for their crucial role in the successful restoration of water supplies to Rembrandt Lane.
