AS the Covid-19 pandemic continues to ravage communities all over the world, all medical attention is being given but KidzCan Zimbabwe says this should not mean a negation of children with cancer.

KidzCan Zimbabwe, which is involved in fighting cancer among children, says some of the cancers can be managed if detected early and in the case of children attention must always be given to them as they are the future.

This was said by KidzCan Zimbabwe officials at an unusual Christmas party at Parirenyatwa Hospital where the organisation donated groceries and toys to the A4 children’s cancer ward.

However, the KidzCan Zimbabwe officials could not get into the ward because they were observing Covid-19 guidelines which require social distancing. Only the clinical staff went in and handed over the Christmas presents.

This year the organisation has been running with the hashtag #ThroughOurHands, and speaking at the handover, KidzCan executive director Mr Daniel Mckenzie said they hope that with this Christmas donation the children can have something to smile about during the festive season.

“Every December we have made it a tradition for the last 10 years or so to throw a Christmas party for the children suffering from cancer in the A4 ward at Parirenyatwa Group of Hospitals in Harare and at Mpilo Hospital in Bulawayo. Today we are here at Parirenyatwa and with the increasing Covid-19 cases it’s unfortunate that we had to hand over the goodies we brought for kids to the Parirenyatwa staff outside the hospital in line with Covid-19 guidelines,” he said.

“With the support of our partners, we brought food hampers with the basics, teddy bears, toys, cakes, and other goodies which we hope will bring a smile on the faces of these children this Christmas. Festive season is a time for giving and spreading love, I also urge other stakeholders to also complement our efforts and help the needy.”
