Aspiring Mt Pleasant Member of Parliament Cde George Mashavave (Zanu PF) on Sunday launched his campaign manifesto listing service delivery, roads and water as some of the pressing matters in the constituency.

Addressing party supporters gathered for the launch in Mt Pleasant, Cde Mashavave said several households in the constituency do not have council tap water.

“We have suffered because of (non-availability of) water and I promise you that if I win, there will be war and the issue will be solved,” he said.

Cde Mashavave appealed for the repair broken down boreholes to alleviate the water woes in the constituency.

“We were assisted under the Presidential Scheme which drilled almost seven boreholes but they are not working.

“We are appealing for the repair of those boreholes so that we can have water to use,” he said.

Cde Mashavave said University of Zimbabwe students were facing accommodation problems because of inadequate space at the campus to house all of them.

“Students are living like destitutes in Mt Pleasant and are engaging in immoral behaviour,” he said.

Cde Mashavave said people are living like paupers at Art Farm following the takeover of the farm six months ago while residents at Tomlinson Depot also need help.

“The people who stay at Tomlinson Depot are facing a number of challenges requiring us to put our heads together.”

He also appealed for food assistance following the drought that has hit the country.

The ruling Zanu PF and three independent candidates will go into battle on April 27 to contest in the Mt Pleasant and Harare East parliamentary by-elections.

Vacancies in the two constituencies arose following the resignations of opposition CCC lawmakers Ms Fadzayi Mahere and Mr Allan Markham.

In Mt Pleasant, Cde Mashavave will go into contest with independents Mr Nason Mamuse and Mr Ticky Brian.

In Harare East Cde Kiven Mutimbanyoka (Zanu PF) and Ms Ropafadzo Cynthia Cheza (independent) are contesting for the seat.
