A Greendale woman died under unclear circumstances on Saturday and her body was found in a drain along Court Road in the suburb.
Residents suspect the woman might have been before her body was left in a drain along Court Road.
The woman aged 37 was last seen alive in the afternoon of the fateful day in the company of an elderly man at Kamfinsa shops. Residents were not sure of the relationship between the woman and the elderly man saying the companionship was not clear.
Residents who spoke to Suburban said the body of the deceased woman was found in a drain near a block of flats that are situated at the corner of Court Road and Kennedy Drive.
A Greendale resident said the incident (death of the woman) took place when it was raining heavily. He said the body was found the next day in the drain. Another resident confirmed that an elderly man who is believed to be in his 70s is the person who was last seen with the woman.
She said the man was seen with the deceased in the afternoon at Kamfinsa shopping centre.
Residents said the elderly man might assist with investigations into what happened to the woman since he was the last person to be seen with her.
“It looked like a man parked along Court Road did something (to her) and drowned (threw her into the water filled drain) her and she died at that spot.
“The elderly man and the deceased woman were spotted at the shops. They spent the entire day at the shops together. The man must be in his 70s and I don’t know how old the woman was,” said a resident.
Another Greendale resident said the incident leading to the death of the woman took place at around 11pm.
“It had rained heavily that day. It was on a Saturday,” he said.
Harare Provincial Police spokesperson Assistant Inspector Simon Chazovachiyi confirmed the death of the woman aged 37 and that investigations into the case were underway.
He also confirmed that her companion was a 70 year old man.
“They were people who were spending time together and there was a tragedy.
“Investigations into the alleged drowning in Greendale are in progress to establish what could have transpired,” said Asst Inspector Chazovachiyi.
