The stand behind Borne Marche supermarket at Avondale shopping centre has been put up for sale with a commercial property likely to be developed by the eventual buyer(s) given it is adjacent one of the prime suburban commercial centres in Harare.

The land measuring 5260m2 is going for a cool US$1,2 million and was put for sale in February this year with Exodus and Company Real Estate Private Limited handling the sale. Suburban could not establish at the time of publishing if the stand had found a buyer.

However, given the stand is close to a commercial centre, the eventual buyers might consider putting up offices, shops or any building for commercial purposes. At the moment, the stand is being used a car sale with a variety of imported cars, mostly ex-Japanese ones, on offer.

Avondale has been growing as a major commercial centre on the outskirts of the central business district, relieving pressure from the CBD as residents of the suburb and those from surrounding areas find some of the services they need at the shopping centre instead of driving into town where they have to contend with congestion and parking blues.

Of late Avondale has been expanding with the coming in of the Riverside Walk Mall a few years ago and the SheikMo Royal Village last year.

TM Pick’n Pay anchors the Riverside Walk Mall which also has departmental store Barbours, banks, Pariah State restaurant, a pharmacy and other specialist shops.

Following the opening of the Riverside Walk Mall, the Total Service Station behind Riverside Walk Mall was subsequently renovated into a state of the art facility.

Besides its own convenience shop, the revamped Total garage also now houses fast food chain Chicken Inn’s Drive-Thru.

The old part of Avondale shops boasts of a Food Lovers’ Market branch, Born Marche, Nandos, banks, pharmacies, security shops, specialist shops, hardwares, and a host of takeaways offering Chinese and Indian food.  Popular eateries Ocean Basket and Mugg and Bean also once had branches at Avondale before they closed, providing an impressive line-up of choices for diners and those wanting to eat out. Another top restaurant St Elmos, which offers a selection of pizzas, pastas, steaks, ribs, salads and desserts, was also once at Avondale shops before it relocated to nearby East Road in Belgravia.

SheikMo Royal Village –  which fronts King George Road — houses an Engen fuel station, food outlet Chicken Hut, vehicles spares and accessories trader Transerve, which has also an auto fitment centre there and leading financial house, Standard Chartered Bank. The first phase of the mall was completed in September 2017 and more tenants are expected to move in when the second and last phase is completed.
