Residents of Lorraine Court in Avondale West who were recently locked in a dispute with developers of a new block of apartments have since buried their hatchet.

The parties resolved their differences following a meeting to iron out issues held just before the Christmas holidays at which the residents apologized to the developer for the misunderstanding.

The residents and the developer clashed over the alleged failure by the developer to fix their security wall and carports, which the developer’s builders had interfered with during construction.

Representatives of residents at Lorraine Court, which is located a Number 7 Chester Road, this week apologized to the developer for the misunderstanding.

In a statement, one of the representatives Ms Vivian Wythoff said: “I take this opportunity to apologize to Rakesh (the developer) for hurting his character. It was not my intention but all I wanted was restoration of our infrastructure at Number 7 Chester Road. I hope we will develop a cordial relationship as neighbours. My wish was to see the restoration of our infrastructure first before I pen my apology but the apology comes from the heart and here I am.

“I feel bygones be bygones let’s start a new chapter. I hope and have trust in Rakesh to timely do the repairs since the rains are damaging our infrastructure at an alarming rate. My Regards.”

Another representative Mr Fungai Barwe, also issued an apology on behalf of the residents, and added that he hopes that the developer will adhere to their agreement and fix what was damaged during the construction phase.

“I personally apologized on behalf of the Number 7 Chester Road (dwellers), if there was anything not factual on my report to the Suburban. Let’s exhaust all available ways of getting things sorted before we rush to the courts. We were suspicious of each other for some time, now since we are able to meet and talk, we seem to be finding each other. I hope and pray Rakesh will honour his promise to fix what was messed up during the construction. I thank you,” said Mr Barwe.

A representative of the developers who was singled out by residents in the previous reports Mr Rakesh Parmar said Capital Homes contend that the stories published in Suburban two weeks ago over the matter were “false and misleading to the public”.

“Property was upgraded with a new wall 1.8m – 2.3m with new electric fence. They followed all procedures and got the necessary consent from Wythoff to erect the new wall and followed law by putting in weep holes for water drainage and storm water drainage on their property. The carport which sits on the boundary wall will be repaired,” said Mr Parmar.
