In a remarkable acknowledgment of her dedication to community development, Ms Jenna Hutchings, a prominent member of the Borrowdale Ratepayers and Residents Association (BRRA) in Ward 18, has been honoured with the esteemed Power of One Award.

The Power of One accolade was bestowed on her in recognition of exceptional efforts in initiating positive change within the community. She was honoured at the recent BRRA annual general meeting.

In an interview this week, Ms Hutchings expressed her profound gratitude for the recognition and urged communities to come together for social transformation.

“This award is a testament to the combined endeavours of a team of individuals working tirelessly towards a common goal. It signifies the strength of unity and the potential for transformative change when communities come together,” she said.

Ms Hutchings’ unwavering advocacy for sustainable transport solutions, particularly her fervent promotion of bicycles as a means of daily transportation, has been pivotal in addressing challenges.

Her resolute focus on solution-oriented approaches and engagement with like-minded individuals has led to the implementation of initiatives aimed at tackling issues such as road safety, public space accessibility, and environmental concerns.

The collaborative efforts of the community teams, supported by various Government departments and local businesses, have yielded significant achievements, including the building of pedestrian/cycling tracks, open streets events, and the revitalisation of ‘Safe School Zone’ infrastructure.

These initiatives stand as a testament to the power of citizen-led change in addressing critical urban issues and exemplify the potential for positive transformation when communities unite for a common cause.

Following a tragic incident involving a student near Borrowdale Primary School, the community’s swift response led to the installation of a raised pedestrian crossing within a mere two days to make roads safer and safeguarding vulnerable individuals. Ms Hutchings’ and the Borrowdale community’s steadfast commitment to addressing urban challenges through citizen-led initiatives stand as a beacon of hope and inspiration for communities nationwide.
