Parents or guardians are also required to bring proof of residence in the form of a current water bill from the City of Harare if it is in their name.

If the parents or guardians are tenants, they are required to bring a signed lease agreement or affidavit written by their landlord plus a current water bill.

For Grade 1 applicants, the child must have been born between July 1 2015 and June 30 2016 while for ECD B applicants, the child must have been born between July 20 2016 and June 30 2017 and for ECD A applicants, the child must have been born between July 1 2017 and June 30 2018.

The development of new suburbs in Harare is not corresponding with the provision of social services such as education and health.

Private investors have been building schools in some of the new suburbs as well as in the existing ones but their fees are not affordable to most parents.

For Form One places at public and mission boarding schools, Government has since introduced online application and selection of students to end corrupt practices in the enrollment process.

Government plans to build more schools in urban and rural areas and has also invited private investors to develop more schools to cater for the increasing number of students. At least 3 000 more primary and secondary schools are needed countrywide to meet the ever rising demand for education. Local authorities should also be building schools but the financially struggling municipalities end up selling stands reserved for public schools. The buyers of the stands might opt to build commercial properties instead of schools in some instances.
