EYAHRA Mathazia, the renowned beat reggae artiste, has been nominated for the upcoming All Female Arts Awards 2024. The event, scheduled for March 27 at Long Chen Plaza, Harare, is set to celebrate and recognise the outstanding contributions of female artistes in the industry.

Eyahra Mathazia is also the Avondale Crime Liaison Committee (ACLC) chairperson where together with the Avondale community and the Zimbabwe Republic Police Avondale are enhancing security in the Avondale community.

The ground-breaking initiative to honour female creatives at the All-Female Artistes Awards Zimbabwe (Afaaz), is being spearheaded by Sarah Dhliwayo, also known as Sarah Dee, a musician in her own right.

The All Female Artistes Awards 2024 will feature a wide range of categories, showcasing the diverse talents of female creatives in Chimurenga traditional, Jazz, hip hop, rhumba, house/amapiano, gospel, Afro-pop, Afro-fusion, short film, full film, sculptor, poetry writing, authors, modelling, dancing, TV presenting, Radio DJs, promoter, facilitator, make-up, nail technician, public relations, fashion and designing, comedy, influential, sound engineering, stage management, artiste management, hair stylists, handcrafts, journalism, traditional dance, dancehall, chinyakare, M.C.s and more.

Eyahra Mathazia, whose name means “daughter of the sun and moon,” has a rich and diverse background that has deeply influenced her musical journey.

Born to Portuguese and Zimbabwean parents,  Eyahra’s upbringing was steeped in the sounds of conscious reggae music, with her parents being active members of the Zimbabwean Caribbean Association.

From a young age, Eyahra’s talent and passion for music were evident. At the age of four, she graced the stage with Joseph Hill during Culture’s Tour, singing “Jah set I n I as watchmen around Babylonian walls.” Since then, her musical prowess has continued to flourish, marked by numerous accolades and a remarkable body of work that spans various genres and artistic endeavours.

Eyahra’s musical career has been defined by a commitment to conscious and uplifting music, with a focus on promoting positive social commentary. Her journey has seen her collaborate with renowned musicians and producers, both locally and internationally, resulting in a discography that resonates with audiences across the globe.

In addition to her musical achievements, Eyahra has also made significant contributions to the arts through her acting career, philanthropic work, and entrepreneurial ventures.

Her dedication to empowering women in the arts and her commitment to community-based initiatives exemplify her multifaceted impact on the industry.

In light of her nomination for the All Female Arts Awards 2024, Eyahra Mathazia shared her thoughts on the importance of such recognition.

“It’s the highest honour and incredibly important to be recognised by your own people and peers.

“These awards are extremely necessary to inspire, motivate, uplift, and most importantly, give a level playing field in a male-dominated industry,” she said.

Furthermore, Eyahra emphasized the significance of creating a safe and inclusive space for female artistes to thrive without facing the challenges of sexism and discrimination.

Her advocacy for female empowerment in the arts highlights the transformative potential of recognising and celebrating women’s contributions to the industry.

The awards, organised by Sarah Dee Creations Africa, aim to shine a spotlight on the contributions of women in the creative sectors.

A documentary capturing the inaugural event will be produced under the theme “If you empower a woman you have fed the nation.”

In an interview Sarah Dee said that collaboration in the arts sector is key hence she is calling upon stakeholders to contribute to the success of this empowering project.

“In the world of entertainment, collaboration is key, and I’m honoured to invite stakeholders to join us in crafting an unforgettable experience for our audience.

“Through this project, we aim to not only entertain, but also to create opportunities for emerging talent and to support the arts in our community.

“We shall be having a 17-member committee, which shall run this through, under the founders’ authority,” she said.

The All-Female Arts Awards 2024 promises to be a momentous occasion, offering a platform to honour the achievements of female artistes and pave the way for a more equitable and inclusive arts landscape.
