WARD 9 Councillor Musarurwa Stewart Mutizwa last Friday attended the Greendale Residents and Ratepayers’ Association (GRRA) extraordinary general meeting held at Greendale Methodist Church called to adopt the amendment of the association’s constitution and set membership fees.
This was the first meeting that Councillor Mutizwa attended a meeting under the new GRRA leadership of Mr Charles Chirikure. Harare East Member of Parliament Mr Tendai Biti, who normally attends the residents’ meetings, was also present.
Recently, members of the residents’ association complained at a meeting that they were inviting Cllr Mutizwa several times to their meetings even during the chairpersonship of Mr Francis Zimunya Nyamutsamba but the Councillor would not attend the gatherings.
Before he stepped down as GRRA chairperson, Mr Nyamutsamba at the association’s annual general meeting held in July, questioned the absence of Cllr Mutizwa at Ward Development Committee (WADCO) meetings where he as the Councillor is supposed to chair.
In an interview, Mr Chirikure commended Cllr Mutizwa for attending the Friday EGM.
“It was a very amicable environment with both Mr Mutizwa and Mr Biti contributing.
“The main issue was amending the constitution and there weren’t too many problem areas and all attendees contributed.
“From my point of view, it’s what we the residents would wish for where all are welcome regardless of political affiliation and are able to discuss issues that affect all of us in a sincere and amicable environment,” he said.
Cllr Mutizwa also confirmed to Suburban that he attended the meeting.
“Yes I attended the meeting together the MP. People need information,” he said.
Residents who attended the City of Harare pre-budget consultative meeting held at Greendale Sports Club recently also expressed concern over the lack of Cllr Mutizwa’s visibility in the ward as he was not present at three service delivery meetings which preceded the budget consultations.
Cllr Mutizwa said he did not attend the meetings because they were “political” and he was not invited.
