The City of Harare (CoH) has called for a meeting with businesses operating in Ward 17 on Wednesday March 1, 2023 at the Kingdom People’s Church opposite the Bond Shopping Centre in Mt Pleasant.

The meeting was called to look at ways the local authority could collaborate with the business community under the “Chenesa Harare Operation,” in an effort to keep Ward 17 and Harare at large clean. Ward 17 comprises Mt Pleasant, Northwood, Groombridge, Vainona, Pomona and Mt Pleasant Heights.

“Operation Chenesa Harare” is a council anti-litter campaign which aims to clear the capital city of all illegal dumpsites and promote anti-littering.

In a statement, the City of Harare’s Mt Pleasant District Office alerted the business community that the meeting will start at 1400hours with the Mayor of Harare Jacob Mafume, who is also Councillor for Ward 17, in attendance.

“You are cordially invited to the Ward 17 business community meeting. All businesses under and around Ward 17 are expected to attend. The business meeting agenda is to find out how the Ward 17 business community can play their part in contributing to the ongoing Chenesa Harare campaign being spearheaded by the Harare Mayor who is also the Ward 17 Councillor. The business community has a bigger part (to play) and we have to map a way forward together,” read the statement.

Under “Operation Chenesa Harare”, council is requesting companies and individuals to assist with trucks, dumpers, front end loaders, tractors mounted with trailers and refuse compactors to make the campaign a success.

On its part, council says it has set aside resources towards the operation and is looking at ways of offering incentives to those who donate their equipment.
