Harare East Member of Parliament Mr Tendai Biti says the increase in commercial activity on ED Mnangagwa Road (formerly Enterprise Road) without corresponding feeder infrastructure is worrying.

Speaking at a Harare East residents’ meeting last month held at Greendale Sports Club, Mr Biti also touched on the numerous new service stations and the newly constructed Highland Park Mall on a narrow road.

“These are the things we are battling with,” he said.

Mr Biti said ED Mnangagwa Road is not dualised and is a very narrow road which cannot cope with increased commercial activity.

“So increasing commercial activity when the road has not been expanded is just a creation of a disaster,” he said.

Mr Biti said ED Mnangagwa Road is now the most congested road in Harare.

“There’s so much commercial activity particularly restaurants and service stations when there’s no corresponding expansion of the road.

“There’s a new mall at the corner of Enterprise Road and Arcturus Road yet the road was not widened to cater for the customers of that mall.

“So this is terrible town planning and we wonder how a development permit could have been issued when clearly the development is not supported by the desired infrastructure.

“So that is our concern, the increase in commercial activity along Enterprise Road without a corresponding expansion of the feeder infrastructure.”
