THE City of Harare has appealed to residents to report any cases of vandalism they come across as vandalism is greatly contributing to the destruction of public infrastructure.

Council said road accidents were also to blame for the destruction of street lights and traffic lights.

“Dear residents, we appeal to you to report vandalism of public infrastructure. Road traffic accidents have become one of the major contributors to destruction/vandalism of public infrastructure like street light poles,” the city said in a tweet on its official Twitter page.

In their reactions to the statement, residents said council should concern itself with providing services to ratepayers.

Others pointed out that the street light were old and city needed to put up new ones.

Residents also demanded water, refuse collection and road repairs with some saying garbage was last collected on November 5 in Marlborough.

One resident argued that the reason for the destruction of street lights was not vandalism but lack of maintenance while another suggested council should coordinate with the Zimbabwe Republic Police traffic section who attend to road accidents.
