ZIMBABWE are through to the final of the 13th African Games in Ghana after beating Kenya by 70 runs on Thursday at Achimota Senior Secondary School A Field.

Will it be another cricket gold medal for Zimbabwe?

Namibia stands between the Chevrons and that feat in the men’s final on Saturday.

Zimbabwe won the toss and elected to bat first against Kenya.

There was  one change in the Chevrons line-up as Kudakwashe Macheka came in for Takudzwa Chataira.

Zimbabwe stormed into Africa games finals with a convincing win over Kenya booking themselves a spot in the final of the African Games.

Their victory over  Kenya on Thursday took them into the finals where they face Namibia for a shot at gold.

The young team, led by captain Clive Madande, posted 196 runs in their innings. A brilliant 41 from the captain himself and another contribution of 42 by Jonathan Campell helped set this mammoth target.

Musekiwa was brilliant at the lower order with 39 runs striking at a rate of over 300. Owen Muzondo earned himself a 4 wicket haul which shattered a brilliant start by Kenya.

Tashinga Musekiwa was the Player of the Match for his excellent display in the semi-final.

Musekiwa’s unbeaten 39 off 10 deliveries pushed Zimbabwe to a big total 196/5.

The Chevrons have emulated the Lady Chevrons who made also made it all the way to the final and won gold last week.

The victorious Lady Chevrons returned home last Friday afternoon to a US$80 000 windfall from Zimbabwe Cricket after winning a historic gold at the African Games in Accra, Ghana.

The Zimbabwe Lady Chevrons beat South Africa by two wickets in the Super Over to collect the country’s second gold medal at the games in a dramatic and scintillating final.

Cricket is featuring at the African Games for the first time and Zimbabwe beat South Africa in a Super Over after their scores were tied after 20 overs each.

ZC gave the Lady Chevrons US$80 000 which was shared between the victorious team’s players and technical staff members. —  online.
