The AGM comes at a time the residents’ association is gearing itself for a major transformation that will enhance its efficacy and impact on the community that has mandated the body to lead them.

In a statement, BRRA said that it has been another year of limited service delivery from the City of Harare and navigating through the local authority’s maze of complexities has not been the simplest of things.

However, the residents’ body said it will remain positive holding out for better days. As the BRRA prepares to hold the AGM, the executive says they hope to incorporate new young fresh minds who will push development further.

“BRRA has had to throw in timely interventions to ensure residents get what they are paying for. Through some fund raising initiatives and the support of some residents the committee has been kept afloat financially and in a position to indulge in meaningful activities that are of benefit to the community. The refuse compactors MOU (memorandum of understanding) with the City of Harare has been well financed through this pool of funds and is ongoing.

“We are hoping to inject new blood into the committee as more residents are coming forward with brilliant ideas that, if adopted and implanted, would change the face of our ward. Many of these individuals have found value in BRRA’s efforts to improve the status of the communities in Ward 18,” said the residents’ body.

The BRRA also said that the recently concluded delimitation of wards and constituencies was yet another challenge they are facing as it is coming with significant changes to the structure of the ward.

“We will be losing some icon sites such as Helensvale shops that will be falling under Ward 19. It is known that BRRA had taken key interest in giving the shopping centre a face-lift as it is a gateway to the most core settlements of Ward 18. Invigorated synergies with neighbouring wards will have to be formulated or re-established where they have existed in order to maintain the momentum that had been gathered towards achieving set goals and objectives. The days of operating in private and selfish cocoons must come to an end if ever we are to make meaningful representations,” said the BRRA.

The association said that its recent strategic planning workshop will be the pedestal of a renewed approach to community development and the incoming committee is well guided in their mandated responsibilities. It urged all Ward 18 residents and ratepayers to be represented at the AGM, which starts at 1600 hours, as they are keen to see new members joining the association from the length and breadth of the ward.
