THE recent Husqvarna Mud Run, which was recently held at the Mount Pleasant Sports Club, raised more than US$80 00 which will be channelled towards child cancer relief programmes run by KidzCan.

KidzCan is set to receive more the money for its cancer relief programs, which was raised from the Husqvarna Mud Run held on April 9 at Mount Pleasant Sport Club.

A total of US$80 546 will be handed over to KidzCan on May 13 to kick start their child cancer relief programmes.

Daniel Mckenzie, executive director of KidzCan Zimbabwe said they seek to serve children and families affected by cancer as well as communities throughout Zimbabwe. Mackenzie said they want to give practical expressions of love, care and responsibility they have to each other as human beings and strive to be humble and accountable in the way they work.

“We provide different services that include clinical care, advocacy, and case management,” he said

“We provide chemotherapy drugs, blood and blood products, CT and MRI scans, transport allowances. Under supportive services, we source and provide prosthetics, admission, and discharge packs.

“KidzCan conducts paediatric cancer early detection and awareness campaigns and workshops which are currently being piloted in Mashonaland Central Province.” He said they advocate for subsidised private specialised medical/health services and promote pediatric oncology services within the public health system.

Mackenzie said KidzCan does not only help the patients themselves but also their caregivers.

“We provide individual and group counseling to children, parents, and caregivers. Parent support groups are conducted once a week and children receive play and learning materials.

“Our volunteers hold structured plays and a clown visits them every time,” he said.

The April 9 event was the 10th anniversary of the Husqvarna Mud Run, a charity event aimed at raising funds for KidzCan’s cancer relief programme

Mud Run is charactersied by tremendous fun and the swampy terrain, undulating hills and magnificent wooded areas which makes the event the muddiest race in the country.

It also has magnificent “lakes” in the grounds play an ideal partner to the event’s obstacles with the water slides, creating maximum squeal appeal.

At the event, people will be running in muddy tracks, getting into water glides and jumping castles will be provided for children with great entertainment in the background. The Husqvarna Mud Run is a fun, charity based event for anyone willing to get down and dirty for charity to help raise funds for KidzCan Zimbabwe.

The Mud Run, just like most sporting and social events, has not been spared disruptions following the outbreak of the Covid-19 pandemic in 2019. The event was briefly put to a hold by the lockdown which restricted outdoor events and public gatherings.

Ahead of the event, Husqvarna had invited potential sponsors to get in touch and help create a memorable event that also contributes to charity.

The 2021 Husqvarna Mud Run was also a great success and raised US$ 31,714.40 for the KidzCan Association.

“As an organising team and sponsor we are proud to be a 100 percent charity event with every dollar made over 10 years going directly and only to KidzCan Zimbabwe. In 2022 our goal is to create a fun event that raises our highest ever total for KidzCan Zimbabwe.”

And indeed the event managed to raise the highest amount ever so far.
