The rider had a two-week endurance test in the world’s famous race and finished on position 32 overall.

Speaking to ZTN Prime on the popular breakfast programme, Morning Rush, Thixton said he will have to think again on taking part in the 2025 edition.

“I was fortunate to take part in that event. It was tough with such a hype around town and I think I played my part.

“The 15-days we threw ourselves in the desert was challenging and I had several ups and downs but I pulled through.

“I had a crash during stage two and I was happy that I managed to get up and dust myself. Carrying the injuries from the stage I fought hard and I am grateful to the guy, who was ahead of me who helped me as Dakar has the privilege to suspend time when you are involved in a mishap,” said Thixton.

Thixton hailed Dakar rules, which encourage participants to keep going and cross the finish line.

“They encourage people to keep going and I managed to do a catch up and shaking hands with Dakar director is awesome and a lifetime achievement.

“Being classified at 150 during the first round gave me the urge as I managed to move to 46 after the single round. The feeling of handling my flag was emotional, it was a tough journey.

“I have an extremely positive mindset and over the three years I have been working hard, I knew my capabilities and will power to do it.

“At the moment I don’t have the urge as it is a mammoth task it took me three years to get there and it also strained me financially,” added Thixton.
