ARMED robbers pounced on a Mt Pleasant house on Sunday and made off with US$48 000 cash and a cellphone.

The Zimbabwe Republic Police (ZRP) has launched a manhunt for the five suspects who were armed with stones and wearing black face masks.

In a statement on Wednesday on their official Twitter page, police confirmed the robbery and said they are investigating the case in which stone-wielding robbers raided a Mt Pleasant house.

“The ZRP is investigating a case of robbery which occurred on 27/11/21 at about 0155 hours, where five unknown suspects pounced on a certain house in Mount Pleasant, Harare.

“The five suspects who were armed with stones and wearing black face masks, demanded cash before being given safe keys. They stole US$48 000, iPhone XRS, car keys for a Toyota Mark X vehicle and went away,” police said in the statement.

Cases of armed robberies where criminals raid houses or business premises to steal large amounts of cash have been on the rise of late.

Despite repeated police warnings against keeping large sums of cash at residential or business premises, some residents and business people have not been heeding the police advice and end up being victims of armed robbers.

In some cases, the robbers work with either domestic workers or employees of targeted organisations who supply inside information about the movements and habits of their potential victims.

Towards the festive season, crime also rises as criminals go in search of money and valuables to sell.
