The Zimbabwe Republic Police has urged the public not to keep or move around with large sums of money.

This follows a robbery that took place last week Friday night when two men were allegedly robbed of US$50 000 near the Pick n Pay Msasa roundabout where they intended to engage in illegal transactions.

Deputy Zimbabwe Republic Police Harare Provincial spokesperson, Assistant Inspector
Webster Dzvova urged members of the public to keep money at banks.

“We also encourage people to use bureau de changes when they want to make transactions rather than changing money on the streets,” he said.

Asst Insp Dzvova said the police will arrest anyone found trading foreign currency in the streets.

It is alleged that the robber phoned the money changer saying he wanted to buy US$50 000 and they agreed to meet near Zimre Park.

The robber then called to enquire on the whereabouts of the money changer and his colleague told the two men that the deal could not go through since a friend who had promised to transfer him money had failed to do so.

The two money changers were robbed on their way back as a car suddenly appeared in front of them, blocking their way. The occupants of the car confronted the two money changers and robbed them of the US$50 000.

Meanwhile, the police are carrying out awareness campaigns on COVID-19 giving he public information about coronavirus.
Asst Insp Dzvova said campaigns are taking place in the whole of the Greater Harare area.

“We are educating people on coronavirus advising them that they should avoid unnecessary movements by staying indoors so that the virus does not spread.

“We are moving around educating the public that when they go to shops or other public places likes waiting in queues, they should maintain social distancing,” he said.
