The National House of Assembly Member for Mt Pleasant Constituency Mr Samuel Banda has called on residents to be patient and comply with the 21-day lockdown Government directive as it is a necessary evil meant to protect them from contracting the Covid-19 pandemic.

Mr Banda lamented the fact that given the economic climate, it is hard for many living from hand to mouth to comply with the lockdown but the directive was necessary to protect citizens. He urged the residents to be patient and continue to comply with the law.

“The lockdown is extra hard given the current harsh socio-economic quagmire we are facing both as a constituency and as a country but I am urging you to be extra patient and stay indoors as much as possible. Let us maintain safe social distancing, avoid crowded areas, practice safe hygiene, rest sufficiently and report early to health authorities any signs of the disease. We have deep faith that the virus will disappear the same way it surreptitiously came. We have faith that medicines will be discovered,” he said.

“Lockdown is cruel but a necessary evil at the moment. We will keep impressing on Government to provide us with food as a good number of residents have no capacity to stockpile foodstuffs, even for one meal, due to extremely low disposable incomes. The fact that others have started receiving foodstuffs gives us hope that such assistance will not end in rural or high density suburb constituencies only as we also have vulnerable groups in our society,” said Mr Banda.
