Residents of Marlborough in Area D, the Redroofs and Avonlea have endured power problems for a long time and are appealing to the power utility for a lasting solution to the crisis.

Speaking on online platforms, the residents expressed concern over the ever-occurring faults which leave them without electricity for days and sometimes even weeks.

The residents have implored the responsible authorities to deal with the matter.

“Sadly, we don’t spend more two weeks with electricity and we can go for three days or more without power.

“We are appealing to the authorities to intervene, especially along Lomagundi Road,” said a resident.

Residents said power utility workers always attribute their electricity woes to a cable fault.

“The ZESA guys are always telling us the same problem that it’s the underground cable fault so we are wondering when is this fault going to fixed as it seems to be happening every month,” said resident.

“A lasting solution is truly needed I have engaged ZESA on numerous faults like these and their statements are that the infrastructure is old and dilapidated.

“Maybe we should invite the new ZESA manager for a one on one in our area so that we try and find a lasting solution,” said another resident.

Ward 41 Councillor Kudzai Kadzombe confirmed the dilemma the residents were facing and said that she has been engaging the power utility for lasting solutions but hitting a brick wall.

She, however, assured residents that she will keep engaging the power utility to repair the cable fault.

“We are faced with a very sad situation for Area D, Avonlea and parts of Redroofs suburbs where they are having power challenges. We have engaged the power utility but whenever they come, they fix the problem but within days there will be another fault again.

“We are now left stranded as a ward as our efforts are proving to be fruitless. The residents have even gone out of their way to make the ZESA Holdings workers happy.

“They have given them incentives and some even cooked for them so that they can properly fix the faults but it’s just unfortunate that we find ourselves in the same place as we were before,” said Cllr Kadzombe.

She said she will keep pushing for residents of her ward to have their challenge resolved.

This week the Zimbabwe Electricity Transmission and Distribution Company (ZETDC) advised its customers countrywide that there will be increased load shedding between Tuesday and Friday due to a technical fault at Hwange Power Station.
