The Zimbabwe Republic Police Marlborough Crime Consultative Committee has issued a number of tips which can help residents prevent unlawful entry and theft as the festive season draws near.

With the Christmas holidays fast approaching, the police and security experts have been emphasising that it is important to start preparations for home and office security over the holiday period, particularly if you intend going away. 

Below are the security tips from the ZRP Marlborough Crime Consultative Committee: 

◆ Install alarm systems

◆ Switch on the outside lights at night

◆ Switch off all inside lights before retiring to bed

◆ Make sure all curtains are closed by 1730 hours

◆ Make sure all windows and doors are locked before retiring to bed

◆ Carry all gadgets for example laptops and cellphones to a secure place at night

◆ Never leave your gadgets such as laptops and cellphones near windows

◆ Put locks on all doors during the night and keep your gate locked

◆ Do not leave small toilet windows open during the night

◆ Never leave objects like bricks or drums near windows and security wall during the night

◆ Do not share your family sensitive information with your gardeners and maids

◆ Make sure al your gardeners and maids are vetted before you employ them

◆ Make sure you collect complete information about your maids and gardeners for example full names and particulars of his or her rural home

◆ Monitor and supervise part time staff when doing their work

◆ When travelling for some days put your house under police supervision  

Recently, the Borrowdale Ratepayers and Residents Associations (BRRA) urged residents in the Borrowdale area to exercise vigilance as crime is expected to rise during the festive season.
