Africa is ablaze with excitement as Zimbabwe prepares to take centre stage in the global fashion arena with the launch of SUPERMODEL, a brand and competition set to unearth the next generation of models.
With a focus on beauty, talent and personalities at a world-class standard, SUPERMODEL aims to provide international exposure and contracts to winners, propelling them into the elite world of international brands and agencies.
The competition is set to start with a nationwide search in Bulawayo on July 6, 2024, followed by a series of live challenges, catwalks, face challenges, and auditions held across various cities in Zimbabwe over the next few months, culminating in the finals on March 1, 2025.
The 20 finalists will be signed with SUPERMODEL agency, offering them the opportunity to work in various capacities within the modelling industry, regardless of race, background, size or age, in a move to contribute to the growth of the fashion design industry in Zimbabwe.
In addition to spotlighting the modelling talent of the country, SUPERMODEL aims to uncover the diverse players that contribute to Zimbabwe’s creative economy, including filmmakers, fashion designers, makeup artists, photographers and more.
The competition also supports the ‘Wear Zimbabwe’ campaign, promoting the wearing of local designs and bolstering the Zimbabwean fashion design industry.
In a statement, the SUPERMODEL team said the contest aims to not only celebrate beauty and talent but to leave a lasting positive impact on the lives of the finalists.
“We are committed to providing business training and support, ensuring that our finalists have the opportunity to succeed in the business of fashion, as part of our corporate social responsibility.”
The SUPERMODEL competition has sparked anticipation within the nation as it promises to showcase the extraordinary beauty of Zimbabwe, documenting the journey for all stakeholders to witness and participate.
“We need a village to raise this child. We firmly believe this initiative will bring out the bright sparks of our nation as we nurture and identify talent in the creative industries,” added the SUPERMODEL team.
The launch of SUPERMODEL is not just a competition; it’s a movement that aims to put Zimbabwe on the global map of fashion and creativity.
With an unwavering commitment to uncovering and nurturing talent, Zimbabwe sets the stage for a fantastic journey of discovery and empowerment, making it the blueprint for the future of fashion in Africa.
