ZIMBABWE XI side will be seeking their first victory when they meet visiting South Africa A in the T20 series at Harare Sports Club on Saturday April 7, 2022.

The Zimbabwe XI side suffered their second successive defeat to visiting South Africa A in the T20 series at Harare Sports Club on Wednesday.

Zimbabwe XI skipper Sikandar Raza played a brilliant innings, scoring 82 runs from 42 balls. The entertaining innings included nine sixes and two fours. Ryan Burl also contributed 30 from 16 balls but it was not enough as the hosts fell 22 runs short.

South Africa A lead the five-match series 2-0. The third match will be played on Saturday at the same venue.

South Africa A beat Zimbabwe XI in the second T20 by 22 runs on Wednesday to attain a 2-0 lead in the 5 match T20 series.

South Africa A won the toss and elected to bat first. The openers Lesiba Ngoepe and Reeza Hendricks started off very well and collected quick 142 runs for the first wicket partnership. Hendricks made 77 off 35 balls before being dismissed by Masuku. Lesiba Ngoepe kept finding the gaps at ease and valued his wicket. He scored 114 off 63 balls and helped South Africa A reach a big total of 224 for 4 in 20 overs.
For Zimbabwe XI, Tendai Chatara and Sikandar Raza picked up 1 wicket each for 37 runs in their spell.

During the chase, Zimbabwe XI lost 3 wickets for 34 runs during the powerplay overs including the dismissal of their skipper Craig Ervine. Tinotenda Mutombodzi also perished after stitching a 23 run partnership with Sikandar Raza. Post his dismissal, Ryan Burl came to the crease. He and Sikandar Raza tried their best to revive the innings and stitched a partnership of 83 runs for the 5th wicket.

At this point, Zimbabwe XI looked to be in the driver’s seat with them needing only over 11 runs per over. However, the wicket of Ryan Burl triggered a series of dismissals in the lower order. Sikandar Raza also lost his wicket at an important time after scoring 82 off just 42 balls. After Raza got out, it was all but a formality for South Africa A to get done with the overs and finish the match. Eventually, Zimbabwe XI fell short by 22 runs.

Lesiba Ngoepe was adjudged man of the match for his brilliant century.

The Zimbabwe national cricket select teams suffered a bad day in the office on Wednesday after losing their T20 matches to Nepal and South Africa A.

The Zimbabwe A team, which is currently on tour of Nepal, succumbed to a huge upset in the final match of the series after they were handed an eight-wicket defeat.

The result ensured the three-match series ended level 1-1. The Zimbabweans had taken early advantage in the series after cruising to a six-wicket win in the opening match last weekend.
