Zesa explains faults behind power outages

The Zimbabwe Electricity Transmission and Distribution Company (ZETDC) says there is a high prevalence of electrical faults due to falling electricity poles, trees falling on overheard electricity cables, water seeping into underground cables and lightning striking critical electrical equipment and infrastructure among other rain induced faults.

In a statement, ZETDC said as a result of these challenges it takes long to attend to the faults being reported by residents.

“Due to the increase in the number of faults, ZETDC  advises that the turnaround time in attending to these faults and restoring power to customers may take longer than is normally the case.

“ZETDC is therefore appealing to consumers to bear with these delays as efforts are being done to minimise the outages and restore service to the affected customers in the shortest possible time. Customers are advised to avoid tampering or attempting to repair electrical faults on their own to avoid electrocution. In the interest of safety, customers should approach their nearest ZETDC Customer Service Centre for assistance. Consumers are advised to treat all circuits as live as power can be restored without notice,” read the statement issued by the power utility’s stakeholder relations department.
