In an interview, Ward 17 Councillor Happymore Gotora said affected residents should start expecting water in their taps by the end of this week if all the materials for outstanding repairs are delivered on time.
“They are being fixed.
“We are aware of that situation.
“They had stopped repairs because of the SADC Summit but they have since resumed,” said Cllr Gotora.
Residents who had gone for around four weeks without council tap water were complaining and seeking an explanation from the City of Harare on their water situation.
In Mandara, residents of Wallis Road said they are not receiving water and it only trickles in their taps when they do receive it.
“We haven’t had water.
“If at all we happen to have it, it trickles in.
“We used to receive water on Mondays.
“We have gotten to a stage where we can’t continue to pay for water that is not coming out.
“Why can’t we get an allocation and we also get water?” asked a Mandara resident.
The resident said even those with boreholes were grappling with the water crisis because there is not much water coming out of the boreholes because the water table keeps depleting due to excessive drilling of boreholes.
Contacted for comment the City of Harare water superintendent, Mr Felix Marodza promised to attend to the problem and urged residents with the same problem to send their addresses saying he suspects it is an isolated problem because Mandara receives water during weekends.
“Usually people don’t receive water if there is a problem with the connection pipes so we need to have the addresses to check the connection pipes or water meter.
“Mandara receives water on Saturdays, Sundays and Mondays depending on pressure,” he said.
