WARD 16 Councillor Denford Ngadziore has set up an eight member taskforce which will superintend refuse collection in the ward.

The committee was established following hiccups in refuse collection by the City of Harare.

In a statement, Cllr Ngadziore said council would only be able to collect refuse in the ward mid next month.

“I engaged the responsible department to try and speed up refuse collection in Ward 16 before the end of this month.

“Failure to collect refuse for nearly two months in our suburbs is a health hazard,” he said.

Cllr Ngadziore said the city is carrying out refuse collection blitzes by deploying the few working refuse compactors to one ward at a time.

“The blitzes include household refuse collection and dump clearance,” he said.

Cllr Ngadziore has engaged businesses, local transport operators and churches to assist in refuse collection.

“I have sought the support of local fuel suppliers to assist in fuelling the donated trucks.”

The taskforce comprising of residents from the Ward is appealing for donations in the form of tipper trucks, fuel, gloves, masks, shovels, bin liners and airtime.

“Our target is to clear all dumpsites by mid-June.”
