Vainona High School launched its fundraising drive last Friday, aiming to breathe new life into its infrastructure ahead of the highly anticipated 50th-anniversary celebration set to take place on August 7.
The launch, attended by current and former students, marked the beginning of a series of activities, including a fundraising dinner and the commemoration of former staff members and students of the high school.
The primary focus of the fundraising drive is to regenerate the school’s dilapidated infrastructure.
Vainona High School headmaster Dr Hapias Dhakwa expressed his enthusiasm for the Golden Jubilee celebrations, emphasising the urgent need for improvements to the school’s dilapidated infrastructure.
The money raised through the fundraising efforts will play a pivotal role in revitalising the school and securing a brighter future for its students.
“As the headmaster of Vainona High School, I am happy to roll out the 50-year Golden Jubilee of community empowerment through education. I have seen a lot of infrastructure that needs a lot of improvement and this will surely go a long way in turning around the situation,” he said.
Dr Dhakwa outlined the plans for the coming months, which include a fundraising dinner and the commemoration of former staff members and students.
One former student, Mrs Shupikai Chinembiri-Mukuyu, expressed her excitement for the upcoming Golden Jubilee festivities. Reflecting on her time at Vainona High School, she said:
“It has been long since I finished school. Now that I am here, I have seen a lot of infrastructure that needs a lot of improvement, and this will surely go a long way in turning around the situation.”
Student representative and Member of the Junior Parliament for Mt Pleasant Constituency, Shana Ropafadzo Mucharwiyo, also shared her anticipation for the celebrations and the rejuvenation of the school.
