SMASH and grab thieves are now targeting women motorists smashing their car windows and grabbing handbags or any other valuables they can get their hands on.
The latest smash and grab was reported at the intersection of Sam Nujoma Street and Churchill Road where criminals recently pounced on a mother and her daughter in the evening between 6pm and 7pm.
“A thief recently smashed the passenger window of a lady’s car at Second Street (Sam Nujoma) and Churchill intersection last night. He stretched in to take her bag, the bag strap was around the gear lever, bag under her feet. He reached in and started yanking the strap, in the process she was hitting his arm with her left hand but when her daughter started screaming she just had to give up and in the midst of all this she took her foot off the brake and ended up bumping the person in front of her, on top of it all. All very traumatic for her and her daughter,” reads a security alert shared on residents’ online groups.
Residents have been warned that thieves are now desperate and will do anything to get their hands on valuables. They have also been urged to remain vigilant and be aware of their surroundings at all times.
Motorists have been advised to avoid driving after dark as this is the time when most of the smash and grab incidents are being recorded.
