The Borrowdale Ratepayers and Residents Association (BRRA) has urged residents to remain vigilant and keep on pushing for development despite the prevailing socio-economic environment.

In an interview with Suburban, the BRRA chairperson Mr Robert Mutyasira said the prevailing negatives need the Borrowdale community to engage relentless optimism and unwavering positivity for development to take shape.

“The prevailing socio-economic environment and the pursuant inconveniences as well as discomforts can lead residents in our communities to persistent negativity and pessimism.

“This is an unfortunate development and can lead to the retardation or stagnation of development of our communities,” he said.

The BRRA boss said it was therefore necessary to counter these negativities by a relentless optimism and positivity.

“I understand our expectations are high and sometimes we place hope in people who are far and unaffected by our adverse experiences. Consequently, their responsiveness is often slow and negligible. My plea to residents is for us to remain proactive and consider their smallest contribution to the rectification of social problems relevant and important.

“It is acceptable to openly discuss the issues affecting us but that should not be our station.

“We can go a mile further and take deliberate steps of controlling the situation,” said Mr Mutyasira.

The BRRA leader went on to say that most of their social amenities in Borrowdale had got to the stage of dilapidation due to neglect as the residents stood by expecting decision makers who live outside their communities to deliver solutions expeditiously.

“We neglected our roles of safeguarding and, if necessary, improve on the facilities around us.

“We found ourselves contributing more to their decline than to the restoration. It is my plea to residents in all our Borrowdale neighbourhoods to begin to look at this situation differently,” added Mr Mutyasira.
