Greendale and Mandara residents have been enduring intermittent power cuts since the onset of the festive season with the residents constantly reporting faults in their residential areas.

According to discussions on residents’ social media groups, the residents are always complaining about the unavailability of power in the two suburbs.

Hardly a day or two passes without residents of some sections of the two suburbs complaining about having no electricity due to faults.

Since December 27, 2020 close to 10 reports of residents being left in darkness have been made at a time when most people would have stocked food, beverages and other perishables which need refrigeration all the time.

“Anyone else without Zesa since 1:30am this morning. Heard what sounded like a large truck going up the road then boom Zesa (electricity) went (off),” a resident reported on December 27.

Other Greendale and Mandara residents also reported that they had no electricity on the same day with at least three reports confirming the power cuts.

“Yes am on Chamberlain (Road). Also no Zesa (electricity),” said another resident.

More Greendale residents reported the non-availability of electricity in their areas since December 27.

“No Zesa still on Eastern (Road) either since about that time,” said a Greendale resident.

The problem was also affecting residents in Mandara who also made their own reports about the power cuts.

“No Zesa (electricity) in Mandara near Direct Contact School,” reported a Mandara resident.

The following day on December 28 some Mandara residents also reported they had no power and were inquiring from fellow residents if they were encountering the same problem.

“Hello we have not had Zesa in Pringle (Road) before Harare Drive since last night, any other areas affected?” said a resident from Pringle Road.

The faults appear to be persistent although residents said when they contact the power utility, Zesa Holdings’ workers always inform them that they are working on the faults.

On Monday this week some Greendale residents also reported that they were trying to contact Zesa workers to report a fault without success on their landline phones.

“Hello, does anyone in here have a Zesa contact?

“I am trying to report a fault but getting no response on their landlines,” said one Zesa client.

Fellow residents provided her with some contact numbers on which to report faults but still got no joy.

“Thank you . . . Not one is being picked up,” said the resident after trying the numbers provided by neighbours.

Others suggested that perhaps the affected residents should drive to the Zesa Holdings offices to report the problems.

More numbers were provided including WhatsApp numbers where she can also alert the power utility workers.

“You can message on there (Zesa WhatsApp number) to report your fault with your Zesa number.

“They are pretty good at answering. If it’s from last night, it’s a cable fault.”

On Tuesday this week the Greendale residents were still in a dilemma over the power cuts.

“Anybody know what’s up with the Zesa?

“Off the last three nights and still off now on Chamberlain Road,” said a resident on Chamberlain Road.

Residents of Bromsgrove Road also confirmed that power was not available in the area saying power supplies had been on and off over the last few days.

“Off in Bromsgrove too. On and off over the last few days.

“Heard they working on fault and hope to be back by 4pm for what it’s worth,” said a resident before reporting that electricity had been restored around 13:37 hours.

But on Wednesday this week residents were still reporting more problems with the power supply.

“Zesa say it is a big fault going right the way to Ruwa but they are working on it and we should have power back sometime today.”
