OLD Mutual Life Assurance Company Zimbabwe Limited has issued a stern warning about a fraudulent land scam targeting unsuspecting members of the public.
This comes as some people are falsely claiming ownership of land belonging to Old Mutual in the Bluff Hill area misleading potential buyers by suggesting that the property belongs to the City of Harare.
The land in question is a 21.3419 hectares plot located in Harare West, being specifically Stand Number 1642 Bluff Hill Township of Stand 1180 Bluff Hill Township.
In a statement this week, the insurance company said that the land is not for sale and urged the public to be vigilant and avoid falling victim to this deceptive scheme.
“It has come to Old Mutual Life Assurance Company Zimbabwe Limited’s attention that some people are holding themselves out as having a right to sell off pieces of its land in the Bluff Hill area misleading members of the public that the land belongs to the City of Harare and that they have a right to sell it,” the company said in its statement.
Old Mutual urged home seekers who might have already “bought” stands on the land in question to contact the company’s lawyers urgently.
“Members of the public are warned not to be enticed to purchase any stands from this property. Those who may already have ‘purchased’ pieces of land must immediately contact Old Mutual Life Assurance Company Zimbabwe Limited’s legal practitioners, Messrs Gill, Godlonton and Gerrans Legal Practitioners at 7th Floor, Beverly Court, 100 Nelson Mandela Avenue, Harare or call 08688 003 063.”
Some land barons in Bluff Hill’s Westgate area have invaded wetlands in the suburb in a strategy to move ahead of the Government which has just completed a National Wetlands Master Plan, which will inform the crafting of the National Wetlands Policy.
The barons appeared to be in a hurry to parcel out stands on the wetlands in Bluff Hill in the hope that their development will be regularised by the Government and the City of Harare.
