THE Northside Community Church is gearing up to host its annual Food Pantry fundraising event on Saturday, June 15, 2024, at the church premises in Pomona, Borrowdale Harare. The event will run from 8:00 am to 9:00 am and will feature a Zumba fitness class as the main activity.

The local community church is extending a warm invitation to all Harare residents to participate by dropping off donations or food pantry items. The suggested items for donation include mealie meal (10kg), sugar (2kg), self-raising flour, rice (2kg) or cooking oil (2l).

Following the Zumba session, egg and bacon rolls will be available for purchase, and participants will be treated to complimentary tea, coffee and juice as part of the fundraising efforts.

The collected items from the Food Pantry event will later be distributed to vulnerable members of the society and the less privileged in preparation for the festive season, ensuring that they too can have a joyful time. The initiative is one of many fundraising activities being conducted by the Northside Community Church.

This year’s Food Pantry event is themed “Making Him Known by Feeding Families and Changing Lives,” reflecting the church’s commitment to making a positive impact in the community.

Mrs Nina Alabi, who is directly responsible for the food pantry ministry at Northside Community Church, expressed her enthusiasm for the upcoming event.

“We are not only feeding people but also aiming to make them self-sufficient. Our focus this year is not just providing food, but also empowering individuals. We have three ladies learning to sew reusable sanitary pads, which will be sold to generate income.

“With the help of donations, we were able to purchase the necessary equipment, and the ladies commenced their training at the end of April,” she said.

“Everyone is invited, and entry is free. Whether you choose to donate food items or contribute financially, your support is crucial. We will also be raising funds through the sale of egg and bacon rolls after the event,” said Mrs Alabi.

The Northside Community Church anticipates a successful and impactful food pantry fundraising event, as it continues to uphold its mission of serving and empowering the local community.
