The City of Harare is this week expected to carry out more demolitions of houses built illegally along Harare Drive and those on greenways in Mabelreign.
In a notice sent to residents on Saturday November 25, 2023, the City of Harare informed residents that it expects to resume demolitions of the illegal houses near Maranatha Secondary School along Harare Drive.
According to the council notice, the owners of the illegal structures have been served with necessary papers advising them of the impending demolitions.
“Please be advised that this coming week, council is going to demolish houses under construction near Maranatha Secondary School along Harare Drive and those that have invaded various greenways surrounding Mabelreign.”
Harare has been demolishing houses built illegally in the city. Early this month hundreds of illegal settlers on Retreat Farm in Waterfalls had their houses demolished after the rightful owners of the land secured a court order to evict them.
Most of the affected home seekers would have bought the stands from land barons who assure them that council will not demolish their houses without a court order or offering them alternative places to live.
