MARLBOROUGH residents have declared zero tolerance to litterbugs to dump rubbish on open spaces in the suburb.

The residents have since resolved to name and shame the litterbugs as well as provide evidence of their illegal dumping to the responsible authorities for prosecution of the culprits.

In recent videos and pictures recorded and taken along Admiral Tait Road and on Elizabeth Windsor Road and circulated on social media, the concerned residents can be seen asking motorists dumping litter along the roads to pick it up and be responsible citizens.

“Why are you dumping litter in the middle of the road? You are a grown-up who should be leading by example and teaching young people how to be responsible citizens. But here you are doing the unthinkable. Please pick up all the litter you were dumping now, before I call the authorities and I have taken your vehicle’s registration number,” a resident can be heard fuming on one of the videos.

The motorists who were being asked to pick up their litter responded in a well-mannered way as they complied with residents’ order. They picked all their rubbish back they had dumped on the roadsides and took it back into their cars.

But when another motorist was confronted by a resident they quickly drove off and the resident updated the Marlborough community.

“Dear neighbours, I have just caught the people in a car dumping rubbish by the bridge on Admiral Tait Road. When I approached them, they quickly drove away. If they are known to anyone here, please kindly ask them to refrain from such practice. The car’s registration number is ACT 7412, Toyota Vitz beige in colour,” said the resident.

The City of Harare recently called on residents to take ownership of their communities and help the local authority and the law enforcement agents in policing the neighbourhoods.
