SOME shopping malls, notably Riverside Walk Mall in Avondale and Arundel Village, have started preparations for the festive season with a number of activities lined up for their shoppers.

Shops within the malls are also running promotions to cater for festive season shoppers with Shays Collection situated at Riverside Walk Mall in Avondale now opening on Sundays between 10am up to 4pm to give customers ample time to do their shopping.

According to Urban Rises projects assistant manager, Sabina Murambiwa, the shop is also expected to have late night shopping for the month of December.

Shops at Arundel Village, which normally close at 5pm, are expected to have late night shopping from December 17.

Tanyaradzwa Sena, Arundel Village’s marketing assistant said shops will open until 7pm.

“For entertainment on the day, we will have Father Christmas taking pictures with children accompanied by the St John’s (College) award-winning pipe band,” said Sena.

Sena said the following, day the shopping mall has a pop-up Christmas market with arts and craft stalls.

“Make sure to pass by.

“It’s going to be fun,” said Sena.

Avondale Holdings is expected to have a Christmas Family Fair also on December 18 at the Avondale Flea Market from 12noon to 6pm.

Avondale Holdings administrative assistant, Nicole Dunford said there will be extended shopping at the flea market until 6pm.

“The flea market is usually open from 8am to 5pm.

“It will still open at 8am although entertainment etc begins at 12 (midday),” she said.

Dunford said activities taking place on the day include Santa, kids’ games and a jumping castle will be available for kids and music with DJ Sachin providing the entertainment.

She said food will also be available with a cash bar while there will also be prizes to be won by lucky shoppers.

“The idea is to bring the family out for a day of shopping and a bit of entertainment.

“Avondale flea market has a wide range of items on offer; from clothing (new and preloved to suit every budget) to tech, accessories, arts and crafts, games, cosmetics and so much more.

“So there is the convenience of having ‘everything in one place’.

“As Avondale flea market is situated next to Avondale shopping centre so there’s the convenience factor in that too,” said Dunford.

There will not be any Christmas lights at Riverside Walk Mall according to Murambiwa as they will be carrying out some renovations at the mall.

“We are not putting up lights this festive season due to some painting works taking place at the mall,” she said.

Murambiwa said they will advise if they will have Santa and music this year.
