THE junior Sables teams have been selected with the top rugby playing schools providing the bulk of the players in the Under 14, Under 17 and Under 19 junior national teams.

The players were selected during the recent trials which saw schools playing against each in the Under 14, Under 17 and Under 19 age group categories.

According to the lists of selected players released by the Zimbabwe Rugby Union, the majority of the players were selected from the top rugby playing schools with private schools providing most of the players with a few ones coming from public schools such as Prince Edward, Alexandra Primary School, Plumtree and Entumbane. 

Other private schools such as Wise Owl, Midlands Christian College, Falcon College, Kyle College, Hellenic Academy, Watershed College, Christian Brothers College and Eaglesvale also had their players making the grade to represent the country.

St John’s College provides the bulk of the players with more than 20 of its players selected across the three age group categories. The Rams have three players in the Under 14 age group, nine players in the Under 17 age group and 10 players in the Under 19 age                                   group.

St George’s College has a total of 11 players in the junior national teams. Six were selected to represent the country in the Under 17 national team while five were selected for the Under 19 team.

Chinhoyi-based Lomagundi College’s also had a good number of its players selected for the junior national teams. 

It has five players in the Under 17 team and four players in the Under 19 national team.

One of the two top rugby playing public schools Prince Edward has two players in the Under 17 team and one in the Under 19 team. 

Prince Edward’s rivals Churchill High School, who are also a public institution, do not have a single player in any of the junior national teams this time around.

 Marondera-based private school Peterhouse has a total of six players in the national teams with three each in the Under 17 and Under 19 categories.
