The championships will be held in the Sharm El Sheikh resort in Egypt from June 11 to the 13th.

Hellenic Academy has the highest number of triathletes with two girls and two boys selected in the Zimbabwe squad namely Makanaka Mawere (Under 19 Girls), Emma Lidsba (Under 15 Girls), Luke Hacker (Under 19 Boys) and Joshua Jacobs (Under 15 Boys).

Two ex-Hellenic students Matthew Denslow (Elite Under 23 Men) and Mikayla Colegrave (Under 19 Girls) complete the cast of athletes with a connection to the Alexandra Park-based private school.

Peterhouse had two of its triathletes making the grade for the African Triathlon Championships following the selection of Erin Elliot (Under 19 Girls) and George Ascott (Under 17 Boys) into the squad to represent Zimbabwe at the competition in the Egyptian resort of Sharm El Sheikh.

Like Hellenic Academy, the Marondera-based Peterhouse also has an ex-student who made it into the Zimbabwean team. Andie Kuipers, who is now at Lenoir Rhyne University in the United States of America, also made the grade in the Under 19 Girls age group.

The other schools contributing triathletes for the Zimbabwe national team were Chisipite Senior School, Harare International School, St John’s College and St Christopher’s School with the four schools having one athlete each selected.

Chisipite Senior had Anje Van AS making the team in the Under 15 Girls age group while Harare International School has Austin Hill (Under 15 Boys) in the Zimbabwean triathlon team. Rolf-Valley-based St John’s College has Matipa Mawere selected for the Under 15 Boys while Duwan Botha from St Christopher’s School also made the cut for the Under 15 Boys.

The 15-member team including athletes and the technical team was recently announced by Triathlon Zimbabwe.

Some schools have been congratulating their pupils for being selected to be part of triathletes to represent their country in an international competition.
