RESIDENTS of Harare’s eastern and southern suburbs, who have been without council tap water since last weekend, are only expected to get water on Monday as the City of Harare’s workers are still working on repairs on a burst pipe in Rugare.

Council spokesperson Mr Michael Chideme told Suburban on Friday that they have now located the problem and completed draining water to reach the pipe.

“Now are plumbers and welders are attending to the burst.

“We should be able to start pumping tomorrow (Saturday) and all affected residents should be getting water by Monday,” he said in an interview after visiting the site where the burst pipe is located in Rugare high density suburb.

Since Monday this week council workers have been battling to repair a water pipe that burst recently cutting off water supplies to some eastern parts of the capital including Greendale, Ventersburg and Mabvuku and a number of southern suburbs.

“We are unable to pump water to Mabvuku, Greendale and Ventersburg reservoirs because of a pipe burst on the Warren Letombo pipeline. Areas supplied by the above mentioned reservoirs will not access water tomorrow (Tuesday) as per demand management cycle,” the City of Harare said in a notice to residents on Monday this week.

On Tuesday, the municipality said work was still ongoing to repair the pipe which burst in the Rugare high density suburb area.

“Excavation underway on the pipeline that feeds the Letombo and Ventersburg Reservoirs. The burst happened in Rugare,” the municipality said on Tuesday.
