The Manicaland Rugby Board “buy a rugby ball campaign” has yielded positive results. The MRB under the leadership of Josiah Borerwe has received a total of 142 balls with some pledges still to be honoured.

The Manicaland Rugby Board met on Saturday at Mutare Sports Club and made a comprehensive list of recipients in line with MRB purpose and vision for Rugby for All 2023.

The board agreed to distribute the balls to the seven districts in the province. The seven districts which will receive balls are Mutare, Mutasa, Makoni, Chipinge, Nyanga , Buhera and Chimanimani.

Borerwe said within each District, his board has identified key stakeholders to advance the board mission and vision of “Rugby for All 2023.

Those identified are NAPH(National Association of Primary School Heads), NASH (National Association of Secondary School Heads), PDO’s (Provincial Development Officers), Tertiary Colleges, clubs and referees.

These will each receive two balls in the first phase of the distribution programme.

He said his board will on Thursday the 14th be in Mutasa District distributing the balls to the various stakeholders identified within the Districts.

Borerwe thanked all the people who have contributed to the “Buy a ball campaign” and looks forward to receiving the pledges made by even more well wishers.

He said while his board is grateful to all the people who have contributed to this noble cause he would like to single out Mr Mangolela based in South Africa who has been behind the sourcing of the balls and their shipping to Zimbabwe.

Meanwhile, in Manicaland,  Hondo Valley based Rugby team Bullets Rugby Club is set to receive a full 24 piece rugby kit  donated by Aaron Jani ,the Zimbabwe Rugby Union President.

The rugby club was formed from the Sahumani school leavers with the aim of keeping the girl child active in rugby after school.  – ZRU Media
