LAST Thursday, the Borrowdale Residents and Ratepayers Association (BRRA) hosted their annual Golf Day at the Borrowdale Brook Golf Club, as part of Ward 18’s fundraising initiatives to raise money for community development in the ward.

The tournament was highly subscribed with teams playing some good golf. The junior girls’ teams performed exceptionally well, winning multiple prizes including Tammy’s nail vouchers and Originals clothing vouchers, each valued at $50, along with hampers from dairy products maker, Dendairy.
The Golf Committee chairperson Herbert Mashanyare expressed his gratitude for the support received from sponsors such as Masimba, FBC Crown Bank and Pro Plastics.
“We enjoyed the golf. The purpose of our tournament was to raise funding for a number of community projects that we carry on an annual basis in our Borrowdale Ward 18. This is the second time we have organised this tournament, and we are very grateful to the generous sponsorships that we have got from quite a number of organisations,” said Mashanyare.
The funds raised from the event will be directed towards a number of community projects including waste management (the setting up of a waste separation centre in Ward 18) and refurbishing the Borrowdale Clinic at Greystone Park.
Mashanyare highlighted the importance of these fundraising initiatives for the community.
“We need to complete our waste separation centre as soon as our permits are issued. Our clinic is in dire need of repairs to ensure it is fully functional for the community,” he said.
BRRA chairperson Robert Mutyasira also stressed the significance of community engagement through such events as the annual golf day fundraiser.
“A day like this is especially important for us as it allows us to engage with the community outside of our annual general meeting. It’s a chance to mobilise funds and discuss specific initiatives we are pursuing this financial year,” he said.
BRRA committee member Pat Townsend said that the support they received from local businesses and residents is crucial.
“The support we received shows that we are all invested in making our community a better place. We are excited about the projects we can undertake with the funds raised today,” she said.
The BRRA annual golf day did not only serve as a fundraiser but also as a platform for community members to connect and discuss service delivery and community issues affecting Ward 18.
